After nearly two decades operating under two separate names, Lunds Food Holdings — the Edina-based parent company — consolidated its grocery brand identity. All 26 full-service locations transitioned to the unified name "Lunds & Byerlys," closing a chapter that had left two beloved Twin Cities grocery names side by side since Lunds acquired Byerly's in 1997.

The Rebrand

The transition began with the Woodbury location, which received new signage during a grand reopening ceremony. The remaining stores completed the changeover by May 2015. One exception: Lunds & Byerlys Kitchen, a hybrid store-restaurant concept that opened in Wayzata in spring 2014, retained its distinct branding throughout.

A natural next step to combine our names as yet another exciting evolution of our brand. — Tres Lund, CEO and President

Background

Lunds acquired Byerly's in 1997, merging operations while keeping the two store names intact. For nearly 18 years, Twin Cities shoppers navigated a grocery landscape where two names described a single company. The 2015 rebrand resolved that split identity, presenting a unified face to customers while honoring both of the brands they had grown up with.
